4 and 8 Bit Graphics

Right back in the cottage industry days of computer games, the technology only allowed restricted palettes of 8, 16 (or if very lucky) 256 discrete colours; the variety and resolution of the graphics was similarly circumscribed. The trick was to produce interesting visuals and gameplay within these limitations. Ingenious solutions and much hard work went into squeezing the maximum effect out of these tight graphic and computational budgets.
